TOWARDS SINGLE-USE
PLASTIC FREE HOTELS
First wave: Croatia, Split
Tourism Tackles Trash is an initiative where responsible tourism in Croatia takes a proactive role in reducing single-use plastic in hotels and implementing refillable- and reusable alternatives.
What is the impact of one decision?
Tourism Tackles Trash is an initiative from Trashpackers, a non-profit organization founded by Tijmen Sissing (The Trashpacker). When Tijmen decided to clean up a beach in 2018, someone filmed him and that video went viral. His initiative grew into a global movement of travelers and locals who cleanup and reduce their plastic footprint. The movement has cleaned up more than 400.0000 kilos of trash in 52 countries and educated over 54.000 kids.
Trashpackers’ mission goes beyond cleanups; it tackles plastic pollution at its source. As tourists, we are guests in someone’s country where we have our responsibility. That’s why we team up with hotels to reduce single-use plastic. Our partner Travel Without Plastic has worked with hundreds of hotels to implement successful plastic reduction programs.
Do you continue polluting or start contributing? It’s one decision.
